KAKUL: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed Pakistan’s readiness to participate in a neutral and transparent investigation into the recent Pahalgam incident, emphasizing the country’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Addressing the passing out parade at the Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul, Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed the nation’s solidarity with the armed forces, highlighting their preparedness to defend against any threats. He stressed the importance of peace but warned against interpreting it as a sign of weakness, asserting that the country’s dignity and security remain non-negotiable.
The Prime Minister also addressed concerns over water rights, specifically under the Indus Water Treaty, stating that any attempts to alter the flow of water would be met with a strong response. Water, he noted, is a critical national interest that Pakistan is determined to protect.
Condemning terrorism in all its forms, Sharif cited Pakistan’s significant losses in both lives and economic terms due to terrorist activities. He reiterated the country’s intolerance for terrorism and called for an end to what he described as baseless allegations from Pakistan’s eastern neighbor, India.
Sharif pointed to the unresolved Jammu and Kashmir dispute, voicing continued support for the self-determination of the Kashmiri people. He criticized India’s treatment of minorities, particularly Muslims and Sikhs, urging India to take responsibility for their protection.
In his remarks about Afghanistan, the Prime Minister expressed a desire for peaceful relations, while noting ongoing concerns about terrorist activities originating from Afghan territory. He conveyed a clear message to the Afghan government about the need for cooperation to prevent such threats.
Highlighting Pakistan’s international relationships, Sharif mentioned efforts to strengthen old alliances and build new partnerships, emphasizing the country’s role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in promoting global peace and security.
On the economic front, the Prime Minister shared progress in economic recovery and attracting foreign investment, citing key sectors such as mining, energy, and IT as areas of growth.
The ceremony concluded with awards given to outstanding cadets, attended by the Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir.
