Pakistan’s President and Prime Minister Pledge to Uphold National Sovereignty on Defence and Martyrs’ Day

Islamabad: On the occasion of Defence and Martyrs’ Day, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have each vowed to maintain Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity against any threats. In separate messages, they praised the preparedness and vigilance of the Pakistani armed forces and underscored their dedication to the nation’s security.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, President Zardari commemorated the Ghazis and Shuhada for their sacrifices, asserting that Pakistan’s quest for regional peace hinges on the resolution of the Kashmir issue, which he described as pivotal for enduring stability. He emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful relations with its neighbors.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed these sentiments, highlighting the armed forces’ historical bravery during the 1965 conflict with India. He stressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation over confrontation in international relations, particularly in addressing global issues like poverty, health, and education. He also reiterated the necessity of resolving the Kashmir situation in accordance with UN resolutions, labeling it a critical unfinished agenda of partition.

On a social media platform, X, Prime Minister Sharif further honored the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s military and civilians. He urged the nation to draw inspiration from the Ghazis and Shuhada, and to embody the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion as envisioned by Pakistan’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
