Islamabad, President Dr. Arif Alvi of Pakistan has raised concerns over the ongoing human rights violations in Gaza and Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). His comments come as part of his address on International Human Rights Day, underscoring the need for global attention to these critical issues.
According to Kashmir Media Service, President Alvi spoke at an event in Islamabad commemorating Human Rights Day, observed annually on December 10. He highlighted the plight of civilians in Gaza and Kashmir, emphasizing the significant number of deaths, including women and children, resulting from actions by Israel and Indian troops, respectively. The President criticized the international community for its failure to uphold human rights equally across all nations.
President Alvi also addressed Pakistan’s stance and actions regarding human rights, stating that the country is well-legislated in this area, with robust constitutional and judicial mechanisms to address violations. He mentioned that the Pakistani state and judicial system respond promptly to human rights abuses, and societal norms in the country also discourage such acts. Additionally, he noted that no religion advocates discrimination, yet it remains a global challenge.
Khalil George, Caretaker Federal Minister for Human Rights, contrasted the situation in Pakistan with that of India. He observed that minorities in Pakistan enjoy the freedom and security to practice their religion and celebrate their festivals. In contrast, minorities in India have experienced increased persecution and oppression under the Narendra Modi-led government.
The event was attended by the First Lady Samina Alvi, diplomats from various countries, and representatives of international NGOs, marking a significant observance of Human Rights Day in Pakistan.
