Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has reaffirmed that minorities in Pakistan enjoy comprehensive political, economic, and social rights as guaranteed by the nation’s Constitution. His comments were part of a statement released on National Minorities’ Day, which commemorates the assurances given by Pakistan’s founder, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, on August 11, 1947, concerning minority rights and religious freedoms.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, President Zardari detailed several measures taken by the government to empower minority communities politically, socially, and economically. He called upon all societal segments to further educate people about these rights and to work towards fostering interfaith harmony and unity across the country.
The President expressed confidence that minority communities would continue to contribute positively to Pakistan’s development. Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of Pakistan and the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, along with Services Chiefs, have also recognized the crucial contributions of minorities to the nation’s progress and cultural heritage.
The ISPR highlighted that the dedicated day for minorities serves as a reminder of the diversity and inclusivity that define the Pakistani nation. It affirmed that the rights and freedoms of minority communities are fully protected under the Constitution and the teachings of Islam, emphasizing their pivotal role in building a cohesive and inclusive society.
