Islamabad: A vigorous series of consultations among Pakistan’s political parties is currently unfolding in the capital as they discuss a proposed constitutional amendment package aimed at strengthening the judicial system. The government and opposition parties are actively engaging in dialogues to ensure broad consensus on the changes.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the discussions are being spearheaded by a government delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar. In a significant meeting at the residence of JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman, key legal and constitutional topics were explored. Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also participated, indicating the high priority the government places on these consultations.
Simultaneously, the PPP Parliamentary Party convened in Islamabad, with Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Assefa Bhutto, and Syed Khurshid Shah discussing various constitutional matters. The JUI-F Parliamentary Party and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Parliamentary Party also held their respective meetings, underscoring the widespread political mobilization around the proposed amendments.
Moreover, a delegation from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf made a strategic visit to Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence, aiming to garner support for the constitutional changes. These intensive political interactions underscore the complexity and importance of the proposed constitutional package, which the government plans to table in both houses of Parliament.
This concerted effort reflects a critical juncture in Pakistan’s governance, as all parties work collaboratively to refine and enact legislation that promises to enhance the judicial framework of the nation.
