ISLAMABAD: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has called for a strategic shift in Pakistan’s export focus, urging diversification beyond the traditional textile sector. Speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad, Iqbal highlighted the untapped potential in the pharmaceutical, mining, and mineral sectors, suggesting these areas could significantly enhance the country’s export portfolio.
Iqbal stressed that a robust export strategy, coupled with youth empowerment, merit-based governance, and investment in human capital, is crucial for Pakistan’s progress and prosperity. He outlined these elements as critical prerequisites for achieving national growth.
Discussing the Uraan Pakistan program, the minister identified Environment and Climate Change, Energy, and Infrastructure as its core components. He noted that these areas are pivotal to driving the initiative forward.
Iqbal also highlighted Pakistan’s recent diplomatic successes, noting the expansion of trade and investment links with regions including the United States, the European Union, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. He detailed efforts to enhance the agricultural sector, mentioning that agricultural scientists and researchers have been dispatched to China to study advanced farming technologies and mechanization techniques.
These initiatives, according to Iqbal, form part of a broader strategy to boost Pakistan’s economic standing on the global stage.
