Pakistan’s National Human Rights Commission Earns Top UN-Linked Accreditation

Islamabad, The Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) has awarded the National Commission for Human Rights of Pakistan (NCHR) the prestigious A-status accreditation. This recognition marks a significant achievement for Pakistan, as it is notably rare for commissions to reach this status on their first assessment and Pakistan is the only country to attain new A status in this year’s session.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the A-status accreditation not only highlights the NCHR’s compliance with international human rights standards but also grants it a seat at the Human Rights Council and other United Nations bodies—a historic first for Pakistan. Rabiya Javeri Agha, Chairperson of the NCHR, expressed pride in this achievement and extended gratitude towards the commission’s members, team, and both civil and international partners, including the United Nations Development Programme, for their support.

This accreditation reaffirms Pakistan’s commitment to serious and effective human rights governance on a global stage.
