Pakistan’s National Assembly Denounces India’s Actions in Jammu and Kashmir

Islamabad: The National Assembly of Pakistan has passed a unanimous resolution condemning India’s revocation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, calling on New Delhi to cease human rights violations and to comply with United Nations Security Council resolutions. This resolution supports an impartial plebiscite under UN guidance to allow the Kashmiri people to decide their future.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the resolution was introduced by Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam, who noted its postponement from the previous day due to the death of an assembly member. The resolution declares August 5 as “Exploitation Day,” marking the anniversary of India’s actions in 2019, which are described as unilateral and illegal.

The resolution criticized the heavy military presence in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), labeling it one of the most militarized zones globally. It voiced grave concerns over India’s efforts to change the demographic and political character of the region and stated that no Indian political process could substitute the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination under UN resolutions.

Furthermore, the resolution condemned the detention of thousands of Kashmiri political prisoners and the enforcement of laws granting Indian forces immunity, which it claimed lead to widespread human rights abuses. It reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination and warned against provocative statements by Indian leaders about Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, highlighting the threats they pose to regional peace and stability.
