Pakistan’s Military Response Highlights Tensions with India

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif addressed the National Assembly on Wednesday, emphasizing Pakistan’s military readiness in the wake of what he described as a “gutless attack” by Indian forces. The prime minister stated that Pakistan’s armed forces delivered a decisive response, showcasing their preparedness and capabilities.

The prime minister detailed the events of the previous night, explaining that India attempted to infiltrate Pakistani territory under the cover of darkness. Citing divine grace and national support, he praised the military for effectively countering the incursion, which resulted in the loss of lives, including civilians.

Sharif highlighted reports of an attempted aerial assault by Indian Rafale combat planes. He commended Air Chief Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu for his leadership and noted that the armed forces successfully intercepted and destroyed several Indian aircraft, including Rafale planes.

According to the prime minister, the thwarted attack involved 80 warplanes targeting multiple locations within Pakistan, such as AJK, Bahawalpur, Shakargarh, and Sialkot. He claimed the Pakistani forces downed five Indian planes and disrupted their communication systems, forcing a retreat.

Sharif called for national unity, urging all political parties, including the opposition, to support efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s defense. He also referenced an incident in Jammu and Kashmir, criticizing India’s quick attribution of blame to Pakistan.

The prime minister alleged Indian involvement in a train hijacking incident in Balochistan, accusing India of supporting terrorist organizations. He offered to allow an international commission to investigate the incident, a proposal he said India rejected.

Sharif concluded by suggesting a national assembly resolution to honor the military’s defense efforts, and a prayer was offered for those who lost their lives during the attack.
