Pakistan’s Law Minister Confirms No Delays in Key Dam Projects Amid National Assembly Discussions

Islamabad, In today’s session of the National Assembly at Parliament House, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar assured that construction on the Munda, Dasu, and Diamer-Bhasha dams is progressing without delays, in response to concerns raised by members including Zartaj Gul.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Tarar responded to a calling attention notice by reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to meeting the established deadlines for these critical infrastructure projects, with only minor exceptions anticipated. He emphasized that these projects are crucial for the country’s water and energy security and are being managed directly by the federal government.

The session also addressed other significant national issues. Minister for Energy Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari discussed measures to manage electricity load shedding in Karachi, noting that while some areas face power cuts to reduce losses, 71 percent of Karachi Electric’s feeders are free from load shedding.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb reported on the implementation of the newly set minimum wage of 32,000 rupees in federal departments, stating that the Finance Division has officially notified this enhancement. However, he noted that wage regulations in provincial departments remain under provincial jurisdiction.

Additionally, the National Assembly saw the introduction of the “Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2024” and “The Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Technology Bill, 2024,” both of which have been referred to the respective standing committees for further review.

The House will reconvene tomorrow afternoon to continue discussions on these and other national matters.
