Islamabad, August 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):Pakistan has called upon all the Afghan parties to get to a common understanding to establish an inclusive set up in Afghanistan for durable peace in the war-torn country.
This was stated by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Dr Asad Majeed Khan in an interview with CBS News today.
The Ambassador said Pakistan firmly believes that representation from all ethnic groups is vital for an inclusive government in Afghanistan for sustainable peace. He said Pakistan is ready to play its role in facilitating the peace process to achieve this objective. He said Pakistan’s interest lies in a peaceful and stable Afghanistan.
Regarding evolving situation in Afghanistan, the Ambassador said Pakistan has consistently demonstrated that we have no favourites in Afghanistan and we are working with the Afghan parties. He said at present, almost all the major Afghan leaders are in Islamabad and engaging with Pakistani authorities.
Answering a question, he said Taliban are not on Pakistan’s payroll and they have their own independent mind to act.
Replying to another question, Dr Asad Majeed said we are not seeing any influx of refugees on our border so far which we frankly feared. He said Pakistan is right now facilitating the evacuation of international NGOs and helping media persons and our embassy is working round the clock to issue visas.
Dilating upon future plans, Dr Asad Majeed Khan said we have been working closely with international community including the United States and we will follow the lead of the global community in seeing how the situation evolves in Afghanistan.
Highlighting Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts, he said we successfully cleaned all the tribal areas and fenced the border along Afghanistan to check cross border movements of terrorists. He said Pakistan has time and again assured that our territory is not being used against Afghanistan or any other country.
Responding to a question, he said the hash tag sanction Pakistan was floated from India and Afghanistan to malign Pakistan. He questioned whether Pakistan be sanctioned for supporting the Afghan Peace Process, and eliminating terror infrastructure from its soil, especially dismantling of the Al-Qaida network.
