In the early stages of the innings, the opening duo of Abdullah Shafique and Usman Khan provided a solid start for Pakistan, contributing an 83-run partnership. Shafique scored 36 runs, while Khan added 39 before both were dismissed.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan won the toss and opted to field. New Zealand, taking the first turn at bat, amassed a formidable total of 345 for the loss of nine wickets. Mark Chapman was the standout performer for the hosts, scoring 132 runs with thirteen boundaries and six sixes. Contributions also came from Daryl Mitchell, who scored 76, and Muhammad Abbas, who added 52.

On the bowling front, Pakistan’s Irfan Khan took three wickets, while Akif Javed and Haris Rauf each secured two wickets, striving to contain New Zealand’s aggressive batting lineup.
