Pakistan’s Government to Broaden Tax Base for Enhanced Revenue, Says PM

Islamabad, In a strategic shift aimed at bolstering the national economy, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared the government’s intention to expand the tax net rather than impose additional taxes. This announcement was made during a high-level meeting in Islamabad, where economic growth initiatives and strategies were a central focus.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prime Minister Sharif directed relevant authorities to engage with both international experts and national stakeholders to devise effective measures for economic stability and growth. He highlighted the government’s commitment to providing global market access to the export sector and fostering the development of industries across various scales within the nation.

The Prime Minister accentuated the need to boost exports through value addition, underlining this approach as crucial for economic advancement. He asserted that elevating the national economy remains a paramount goal of his administration.

In his commitment to economic reform, Sharif announced his personal involvement in overseeing the implementation of these initiatives and conducting regular meetings with key stakeholders. He requested detailed reports on phased economic sector reforms and a comprehensive strategy to optimize the existing power sector’s capacity.

Moreover, the Prime Minister initiated a Skill Development Program in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, aiming to equip the youth with modern and relevant skills. This move signifies a holistic approach to economic reform, emphasizing human capital development alongside infrastructural and industrial advancement.
