Islamabad, In a strong appeal to the international community, Pakistan’s Caretaker Foreign Minister, Jalil Abbas Jilani, has called for an immediate cessation of human rights violations in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). During his message on the occasion of Kashmiris Right to Self-Determination Day, Jilani emphasized the urgent need for the United Nations and other global entities to ensure that the Kashmiri people are able to exercise their right to self-determination, as guaranteed by the United Nations Security Council resolutions.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Foreign Minister underscored the significance of self-determination as a vital international law principle. He lamented that despite annual reaffirmation of this right by the United Nations General Assembly, the people of Kashmir have been deprived of their fundamental right to choose their destiny.
Jilani criticized the Indian government’s actions in Jammu and Kashmir, describing them as illegal efforts to solidify its hold over the disputed territory. He referred to India’s unilateral decisions taken on August 5, 2019, and subsequent demographic and political manipulations aimed at marginalizing the native Kashmiri population. The Foreign Minister highlighted the recent verdict by the Indian Supreme Court as further evidence of India’s attempts to deny the Kashmiri people their right to self-determination.
The Foreign Minister expressed his grave concern over the systematic human rights abuses being perpetrated by India in IIOJK. He mentioned that the Indian authorities have fostered a climate of fear and repression to suppress any form of dissent in the region.
Jilani affirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Kashmiri cause, stating that Pakistan will persist in offering moral, political, and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination, in line with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
This statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Minister serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing crisis in IIOJK and the need for immediate international intervention to uphold human rights and international law.
