Islamabad, In a significant affirmation of Pakistan’s economic direction, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb reiterated the government’s commitment to successfully conclude the ongoing International Monetary Fund (IMF) program. The minister’s pledge came during discussions with the United States Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, focusing on fiscal responsibility, social protection, and the reinforcement of the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Aurangzeb outlined a comprehensive strategy to sustain the economic reform trajectory set by the Extended Fund Facility 2019 and the Stand-By Arrangement 2023. Key reform areas include the Federal Board of Revenue, aiming to seal revenue leakages through comprehensive digitalization, enhancing State-Owned Enterprise reforms, bolstering social protection frameworks, refining public financial management, advancing energy sector reforms, eliminating distortionary subsidies, and encouraging private sector-led growth.
Acknowledging the pivotal role of the United States as a major trading partner and source of foreign direct investment, Aurangzeb lauded the robust economic ties between the two nations. The minister’s discussions with Ambassador Blome highlighted a mutual interest in maintaining the positive momentum of Pakistan’s economy, with Blome extending congratulations on Aurangzeb’s recent appointment and commending the government for its encouraging steps towards economic stabilization.
