Washington DC, In a notable diplomatic effort, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Masood Khan, has highlighted the critical need for enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and the United States, alongside advocating for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute for regional peace and stability. During his address at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Khan emphasized the importance of addressing the Kashmir issue through various means in line with international law and asserted that Pakistan’s political and economic stability is essential for its future growth.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Ambassador Khan’s remarks were made at a session titled “The Future of Pakistan and the U.S.-Pakistan Relations” at the CSIS, where he pointed out the cyclical nature of Pak-US relations and the need for a steady engagement. He mentioned that the United States’ focus on other global regions has limited its attention towards Pakistan, stressing the strategic importance of enhancing Pak-US cooperation for mutual benefit and regional security. Khan also noted the shift in the US’s approach towards Pakistan, moving away from an Indo-centric perspective and underlining the necessity for South Asia’s security to be viewed independently.
During his speech, Khan called for the reestablishment of communication channels between India and Pakistan for confidence-building and strategic restraint, particularly regarding the Kashmir dispute. He advocated for a peaceful resolution in accordance with international law, highlighting the region’s significance for durable peace and stability. Additionally, Khan pointed out Pakistan’s role as a potential meeting point rather than a battleground for major global powers, encouraging investment in various sectors and highlighting the progress made in bilateral cooperation.
The ambassador also touched upon the significant contributions of the Pakistani diaspora in the United States, the presence of American enterprises in Pakistan, and the potential for further investment, especially in sectors like IT, agriculture, energy, and minerals. He concluded by emphasizing the need for more investment in Pakistan and the positive impact it could have on the wider region, including the anticipation of American decisions on military sales, financing, and critical equipment supply for maintaining strategic balance and combating terrorism.
