Pakistan’s Election Commission Sets Date for By-Elections Across Assemblies


Islamabad, The Election Commission of Pakistan has scheduled by-elections for numerous legislative seats across the country, including the National Assembly, Punjab Provincial Assembly, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Sindh Provincial Assembly, and Balochistan Assembly, to be held on March 13, 2024. The electoral process will witness the participation of 239 candidates, with some winning unopposed, highlighting the vibrant democratic process in the nation.



According to Election Commission of Pakistan, the by-elections will fill six seats in the National Assembly, 12 in the Punjab Provincial Assembly, two in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, one in the Sindh Provincial Assembly, and two in the Balochistan Assembly. Notably, Asifa Bhutto Zardari and Zubair Ahmed Junejo have won unopposed in their respective assembly seats, NA-207 and PS-80 Dadu. The elections have attracted a substantial number of candidates, particularly in Punjab, where 154 are vying for seats.



The Commission has begun distributing election materials and finalizing preparations to ensure a smooth electoral process. With the final candidate lists set to be published by March 30, 2024, and ballot printing underway, the authorities are coordinating with various governmental and law enforcement agencies to facilitate a peaceful and orderly election.
