Pakistan’s Delegation Meets with U.S. Congressmen to Address Regional Tensions

Washington: A high-level parliamentary delegation from Pakistan, led by Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, engaged in a series of meetings with U.S. Congress members on Capitol Hill, focusing on recent regional tensions and the need for sustained dialogue between neighboring countries.

In the discussions, Zardari highlighted recent actions by India, which he described as unprovoked aggression, including attacks on civilians and the unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. He emphasized that these actions represent a breach of international law.

Acknowledging the role of the United States, Zardari expressed appreciation for President Donald Trump’s efforts in de-escalating tensions and promoting a ceasefire in the region. He stressed that lasting peace in South Asia depends on dialogue, restraint, and a fair resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir issue.

The Pakistani delegation reiterated their country’s commitment to peace, counterterrorism, and responsible behavior in response to recent Indian actions. They emphasized the importance of dialogue regarding Jammu and Kashmir, an agenda that remains unfinished at the United Nations, and highlighted the necessity of adhering to international law, United Nations Security Council resolutions, and the Indus Waters Treaty.

Members of Congress welcomed the dialogue with the Pakistani delegation, urging both Pakistan and India to exercise restraint and focus on regional peace and stability. They voiced support for the Pakistani people and reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to supporting Pakistan’s economic development.
