Pakistan’s Commitment to Climate Resilience Underlined by PM’s Coordinator

Islamabad, In a significant push toward bolstering Pakistan’s environmental sustainability, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, highlighted the urgent need for global cooperation to address the challenges posed by climate change, particularly the rapid melting of glaciers and the resulting socio-economic impacts. This call to action was emphasized during a meeting with representatives from the Italian NGO EvK2CNR, focusing on joint efforts to combat environmental degradation.

According to Press Information Department, Alam detailed the adverse effects of global warming on Pakistan’s mountain regions, noting disruptions in water availability and seasonal weather patterns that threaten agriculture, public health, and economic stability. She stressed the importance of sustainable practices and international collaboration in curbing greenhouse gas emissions, which are crucial for mitigating climate change’s impact on diverse sectors. The Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has been particularly vocal about enhancing the country’s climate resilience, directing his team to implement robust environmental policies and initiatives.

During the meeting, EvK2CNR’s President, Agostino Da Polenza, outlined various initiatives undertaken by his organization to support socio-economic development and environmental protection in Pakistan’s mountainous areas, including Gilgit-Baltistan. He commended the government’s proactive stance on environmental issues and pledged continued support for Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen its climate resilience and tap into renewable energy resources.
