Karachi, General Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Pakistan, emphasized Pakistan’s significant contributions and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism during his interactions with members of prominent US think tanks and media in the United States.
According to Radio Pakistan, the COAS presented Pakistan’s perspective on regional security, transnational terrorism, and the importance of maintaining strategic stability in South Asia. General Munir stressed that Pakistan, holding crucial geopolitical and geo-economic positions, aims to establish itself as a hub of connectivity and a gateway to Central Asia and beyond, while avoiding bloc politics and maintaining balanced relationships with friendly countries.
The Army Chief expressed Pakistan’s desire to expand its bilateral engagement with the US through a long-term, multi-domain partnership, noting that his discussions with US political and military leaders were positive and forward-looking.
General Munir reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding role as a bulwark against transnational terrorism, underscoring its efforts in ensuring regional stability and global peace. Regarding the Kashmir issue, he called for its resolution in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and United Nations Security Council resolutions, stating that unilateral actions cannot change the nature of this internationally recognized dispute.
Additionally, the COAS highlighted the urgent need for addressing the crisis in Gaza, emphasizing the provision of humanitarian assistance and the implementation of a two-state solution for lasting peace in the region.
These discussions mark a significant effort by Pakistan to articulate its stance on key regional and international issues, reinforcing its commitment to peace and stability in South Asia and beyond.
