ISLAMABAD, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar has highlighted the vital role of media in society’s development and the state’s duty to protect the rights of media representatives.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister addressed these issues while meeting with a delegation from the Pakistan Broadcasters Association on Thursday in Islamabad. They discussed the challenges faced by the mass media, with a focus on the electronic media sector. The delegation presented their concerns regarding the delayed payments for government advertisements. Kakar assured them of settling the advertisement dues promptly and instructed the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to expedite the resolution process.
During the discussions, Prime Minister Kakar acknowledged the media as the fourth pillar of the state, emphasizing its critical contribution to society’s development and its role in fostering good governance and accountability. He expressed confidence that the media would maintain its impartiality, contributing to the stability of democracy. Kakar also touched on economic issues, mentioning the recent devaluation of the dollar and measures against smuggling and electricity theft, which he said are in the interest of the common citizen.
