Pakistan’s Call to Action: Safe Return and Justice for Rohingya Muslims

Islamabad: Pakistan has issued a fervent call for the safe return, justice, and citizenship for Rohingya Muslims, spotlighting the dire humanitarian and human rights challenges they face.

During the High-Level Conference on the Situation of Rohingya Muslims and other Minorities, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, emphasized the urgency of resolving this protracted crisis. He urged the global community to transform promises of support into tangible action.

Ambassador Ahmad highlighted the prolonged displacement, rights denials, and the recent violence surge in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, which have compounded the hardships of the Rohingya, prompting further exodus and worsening an already grave humanitarian situation.

Acknowledging the remarkable generosity of Bangladesh and other host nations, Pakistan underscored the significant burden these countries bear. Emphasizing its own history of hosting millions of refugees, the Pakistan UN Ambassador called on international partners to exhibit the same solidarity and urgency in addressing the crisis.

He also noted that only a Myanmar-led, inclusive process, supported by ASEAN, could ensure the safe, dignified return of the Rohingya, crucial for establishing peace and long-term stability in the region.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s steadfast commitment, Ambassador Ahmad expressed readiness to collaborate with all stakeholders to mitigate humanitarian distress and promote a sustainable political resolution.
