ISLAMABAD: A recent survey by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan reveals that a significant 77% of Pakistanis partake in daily meals with their families, underscoring the country’s strong communal traditions. This practice is more prevalent in rural areas, with 79% of households sharing meals together, compared to 72% in urban regions.
The survey, conducted from April 16 to April 30, 2025, involved a representative sample of 724 men and women from both urban and rural settings across Pakistan’s four provinces. Participants were asked about the frequency of their family meals, with a notable majority indicating daily participation.
In addition to the 77% who eat with family members daily, 8% reported doing so several times a week, while 12% shared meals very rarely, and 3% said they never eat with their families. The survey, carried out using telephonic interviews (CATI), has an error margin of approximately ± 2-3 percent at a 95% confidence level.
The findings highlight the enduring cultural value placed on family mealtimes in Pakistan, with rural areas leading in this communal practice. The research was facilitated by the Gilani Research Foundation, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.
