Washington, The number of Pakistani students in U.S. higher education institutions has seen a significant increase, the latest Open Doors Report released by the U.S. Department of State and the Institute of International Education (IIE). During the academic year 2022-2023, 10,164 Pakistani students were enrolled in U.S. universities, marking a 16% increase from the previous year.
According to Embassy of Pakistan in Washington D.C., this growth places Pakistan among the top eight countries witnessing a notable rise in student enrollments in the United States. Ambassador Masood Khan, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, welcomed this increase and expressed hope that ongoing efforts would lead to a doubling of these numbers in the next three years.
Ambassador Khan appreciated the U.S. administration’s cooperation in the education sector and noted the diverse representation of Pakistani students across various U.S. institutes. He highlighted a focus on providing Pakistani students with greater opportunities in STEM subjects to benefit from U.S. expertise in these disciplines.
The report also underscores the United States’ position as a leading destination for international study, hosting over one million international students in the 2022-2023 academic year. This represents a 12% increase from the previous year and is the fastest growth rate in over four decades, reflecting the global appeal of U.S. higher education.
