Lahore: Najam Mazari, head of an institute focused on organic food and products, highlighted the growing demand for Pakistani meat in various international markets and proposed initiatives to boost exports of organic and halal products. Mazari suggested the establishment of a national platform, the “Pakistan Organic and Halal Export Mission,” to promote organic production, facilitate certification, ensure quality, and connect with overseas buyers.
According to Ministry of National Food Security and Research, Mazari emphasized the need for a focus on balanced natural feed, a safe environment, and compliance with international standards for organic meat production. He called for the creation of dedicated production zones and support for small and medium-sized farmers, including training and financial assistance for certification. Mazari also suggested enhancing the export value of traditional halal products by introducing them under organic standards to secure better prices in the global market.
Mazari recommended a collaborative plan involving the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, relevant research institutions, and the private sector. He stressed that organic agriculture should complement conventional farming, proposing a phased policy approach to improve farmers’ incomes, strengthen food security, protect the environment, and increase agricultural exports.
