Pakistani Prime Minister Urges Safe Return of Nationals from Gaza Flotilla

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for the immediate return of Pakistani nationals detained while participating in the Sumud Gaza Flotilla, after the group was intercepted en route to Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid. The prime minister expressed his appreciation for the Pakistani members of the flotilla, highlighting their commitment to humanitarian principles.

In a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, Sharif acknowledged the efforts of citizens including Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, Mazhar Saeed Shah, Wajahat Ahmed, Dr. Osama Riaz, Ismail Khan, Syed Aziz Nizami, and Fahad Ishtiaq, among others. He praised their involvement as an embodiment of Pakistan’s peace-loving intentions and dedication to aiding those in need.

Sharif reaffirmed the government’s stance on the importance of respecting human life, ensuring safe access, and providing uninterrupted humanitarian assistance. He emphasized the government’s strong demand for the safe return of its citizens, while also expressing hopes for their safety and swift journey back to Pakistan.

In a prior post, the prime minister condemned an attack by Israeli forces on the flotilla, which consisted of over 450 humanitarian workers from 44 countries. He described the incident as a hindrance to peace and a barrier to delivering essential aid to Gaza.

Sharif urged for an end to the violence and called for the release of all detained humanitarian workers, stressing that their only action was to transport aid to Palestinians in need. The prime minister’s statements reflect an ongoing commitment to humanitarian efforts and international cooperation.
