Pakistani Minister Seeks Investment from Global Shipping Companies


HONG KONG: Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh has extended an invitation to international shipping companies to invest in Pakistan, highlighting the strategic advantages and incentives available to foreign investors.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during his address at the Global Maritime Trade Summit in Hong Kong, Sheikh announced plans to introduce a new maritime policy, aiming to attract overseas investment by offering tax exemptions and other incentives. He underscored Pakistan’s strategic geographical position, which facilitates the transportation of goods to major markets, including China, Central Asia, and the Middle East.



Sheikh also noted significant progress at Gwadar Port, which is anticipated to become fully operational soon. He mentioned that the federal cabinet has mandated that half of the nation’s trade should be routed through Gwadar Port, emphasizing its critical role in trade with countries such as China, Russia, and Hong Kong.
