Pakistani Minister Criticizes Modi’s Role in Temple Inauguration, Highlights Religious Tensions in India

Islamabad, Pakistan’s Caretaker Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Aneeq Ahmed, has strongly criticized Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent actions, particularly the inauguration of a temple on the site of the demolished Babri Masjid, as undermining India’s democratic claims.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Ahmed, in a statement issued on Tuesday, condemned the religious polarization he sees as a policy of the Indian state, asserting that it destabilizes regional peace and stability. He expressed deep concern over what he described as democratic backsliding in India.

The minister drew historical parallels, citing the foresight of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, in contrast to Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister. Ahmed referred to Narendra Modi as the “Netanyahu of our region” and equated the Hindutva ideology with modern-day Nazism, reflecting the heightened tensions between the two neighboring countries.

Ahmed called on the international community to take serious notice of the violent Hindutva ideology he claims is being exported from India. He also expressed solidarity with Indian Muslims, stating that Pakistan stands with them in their time of distress.
