Pakistani Lawyers Mobilize Against Indian SC Verdict on Kashmir

Islamabad, A coalition of lawyers from Pakistan’s Bar Councils convened in Islamabad to voice their concerns over the recent verdict of the Indian Supreme Court regarding Jammu and Kashmir. This assembly underscores a growing unease within Pakistan’s legal fraternity about the ramifications of this decision on the disputed region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the delegation, which included members from the Islamabad Bar Council, Azad Kashmir Bar Council, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, met with Federal Minister for Law and Justice Ahmad Irfan Aslam. The key agenda was to deliberate on the Indian Supreme Court’s affirmation of the Modi government’s revocation of the special status accorded to occupied Kashmir.

The legal delegation expressed alarm over the verdict’s potential impact on the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). They stressed the urgent need for Pakistan to develop a strong counter-narrative and a strategic framework to challenge the verdict on international platforms.

The Law Minister, recognizing the seriousness of the issue, aligned with the delegation’s concerns. He commended the legal community for taking a proactive role in the Kashmir issue and underscored the necessity of formulating a cohesive strategy that involves all relevant stakeholders.

Furthermore, Minister Aslam affirmed the Law Ministry’s commitment to collaborating with various parties to protect the interests of Kashmiri people and to assert a powerful international response to the Indian Supreme Court’s decision.

This meeting marks a pivotal moment in Pakistan’s legal response to the ongoing Kashmir dispute, signifying a concerted effort to challenge the recent developments on a global stage.
