Islamabad, Murtaza Solangi, the Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting in Pakistan, has expressed optimism that the upcoming general elections will bring political stability to the country.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Solangi, in an interview with a private TV channel, emphasized the crucial role of the Election Commission of Pakistan in conducting free and fair elections scheduled for the 8th of next month. He assured that the caretaker government is dedicated to supporting the Election Commission in administrative, financial, and security matters to ensure a conducive environment for the elections.
Solangi mentioned that the state media, including Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television, are impartially covering all political parties, dismissing any favoritism in the electoral race. He highlighted that the constitution mandates the country to be governed by representatives chosen through credible elections, leaving the decision of electing leaders to the Pakistani people.
Addressing questions on various issues, Solangi commented on the conviction of the former Chairman of PTI in serious crimes, noting that media access is typically restricted for convicts and those facing serious charges. Regarding Pakistan’s relations with Afghanistan, he expressed concerns about the interim Afghan government’s actions, especially regarding harboring terrorists like the TTP. He stated that dialogue with such groups would only be possible following their surrender and acceptance of Pakistan’s constitution.
Solangi also touched upon Pakistan’s relations with neighboring countries. He conveyed hope for future dialogue with India, contingent upon the outcomes of elections in both countries. Regarding ties with Iran, he underscored the significance of the relationship and expressed confidence in the ability of Pakistan’s political and military leadership to amicably resolve issues with Iran.
The Minister clarified that the recent incident involving Iran’s breach of Pakistan’s sovereignty is unrelated to the Senate’s resolution to delay elections.
