Pakistani Finance Minister Discusses Power Sector Challenges with Port Qasim Electric Power Company Delegation

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari met with a delegation from Port Qasim Electric Power Company (PQEPC), led by CEO Mr. Liang, to discuss operational challenges and potential solutions in Pakistan’s power sector.

According to Ministry of Finance announcement issued on 01 August 2024, the PQEPC delegation briefed the ministers on the company’s operations and the issues they face due to overdue receivables. The delegation highlighted that PowerChina, a major state-owned Chinese enterprise and a key investor in Pakistan’s energy market, is committed to collaborating with the Government of Pakistan to enhance the power sector.

Minister Aurangzeb welcomed the delegation’s suggestions, acknowledging and appreciating the investments made by PQEPC China and other Chinese companies in Pakistan’s power sector. He assured that the Ministry of Finance and Energy would continue to work with stakeholders to identify and implement sustainable solutions to address the sector’s challenges.

The PQEPC delegation expressed their gratitude for the Finance Minister’s constructive feedback and support, offering the company’s full cooperation in resolving power sector issues.
