ANKARA, Dr. Yousaf Junaid, the Ambassador of Pakistan to Turkiye, expressed concerns on Wednesday regarding India’s actions in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Drawing a parallel, he suggested that India was adopting a strategy similar to Israel by settling non-locals in the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, during an event at the embassy, Dr. Junaid shed light on the alleged actions of Indian occupation forces in Kashmir. He depicted a grim situation for the Kashmiris, portraying them as a population devoid of basic human rights. He further stressed the similarities between the plights of the people of Palestine and Kashmir, underscoring that these regions represented ongoing foreign occupations in the contemporary world. Both situations, he emphasized, involved military occupations that not only deprived the inhabitants of their right to self-determination but also subjected them to severe mistreatment.
The event saw attendance from various notable personalities, including Chairperson Human Rights Investigation Commission of the Turkish Parliament Derya Yanik, Member of Parliament Burhan Kayaturk, and President SDE Guray Alpar, alongside representatives from the media, think tanks, and civil society.
In her address, Chairperson Derya Yanik stressed that supporting the Kashmiri cause was both a mandate of international law and a call of conscience. She affirmed Turkiye’s unwavering support for a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir conflict in line with the aspirations of its people. Highlighting the alleged human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), she called upon the global community to intervene and ensure the implementation of UN resolutions to restore peace in the area.
Further emphasizing Turkiye’s support, Member of Parliament Burhan Kayaturk remarked that the non-implementation of United Nations resolutions jeopardized both international peace and human rights. He expressed gratitude towards the people and the government of Turkiye, singling out President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for spotlighting the Kashmir issue at the United Nations General Assembly.
