London: A high-level parliamentary delegation from Pakistan, led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, engaged in discussions today with the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, highlighting concerns over Indian military actions and their impact on regional stability.
The delegation apprised Speaker Hoyle of the escalating security situation following the Pahalgam incident. Mr. Bhutto Zardari expressed serious concerns about what he described as India’s unfounded allegations against Pakistan, made without credible investigation, and subsequent military strikes targeting civilians. He also raised alarms over India’s decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty, actions that are seen as violations of international law.
Mr. Bhutto Zardari emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to peace and regional stability, urging for a just resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with the UN Charter. He warned that India’s suspension of the Indus Water Treaty could have severe humanitarian consequences and set a dangerous precedent of weaponizing water resources.
The meeting underscored Pakistan’s stance on maintaining restraint and responsibility, while cautioning against allowing India’s actions to undermine international norms. The delegation stressed the importance of respecting the sanctity of treaties to preserve the international order.
Sir Lindsay Hoyle reaffirmed the strong ties between the UK and Pakistan, acknowledging the contributions of the Pakistani community in Britain. He reiterated the UK’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in South Asia.
Other members of the delegation included several former ministers and officials, such as Dr. Musadik Masood Malik, Senator Sherry Rehman, and Hina Rabbani Khar, among others. Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Dr. Mohammad Faisal, was also in attendance at the meeting.
