Pakistani and UK Officials Discuss Immigration and Security Cooperation


Islamabad: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry met with UK Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Stephen Doughty to discuss strengthening Pakistan-UK relations, focusing on illegal immigration, counter-narcotics, and counter-terrorism.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting underscored the importance of joint efforts to prevent travel to the United Kingdom on fraudulent student visas. An agreement was reached to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries to curb illegal activities. Discussions also included the situation in the Middle East and Pakistan’s role in regional diplomacy, highlighting the need for ongoing efforts to reduce tensions.



The meeting reviewed the accomplishments of the Joint Working Group over the past 90 days and outlined steps for future collaboration, including discussions on Afghanistan’s border situation. Minister Naqvi stressed the necessity of strict checks on Pakistani students using fake visas and noted the Anti-Narcotics Force’s seizure of 55 metric tons of drugs destined for the UK. Stephen Doughty, the UK Minister, commended Pakistan’s efforts against online fraud. The meeting was attended by British High Commissioner Jane Marriott and other UK officials.
