Islamabad, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq of Pakistan’s National Assembly met with the Portuguese Envoy to Pakistan, Manuel Frederico Pinheiro Da Silva, to discuss enhancing political, cultural, economic, and people-to-people contacts between Pakistan and Portugal. The meeting emphasized the multifaceted relationship between the two countries, marked by shared interests and cooperation at international forums.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the Speaker and the Portuguese envoy discussed a wide range of bilateral, regional, and global issues, expressing satisfaction with the current state of bilateral relations. They reaffirmed their commitment to further expanding and diversifying cooperation in mutually beneficial areas.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening ties between Pakistan and Portugal. He suggested that parliamentary friendship groups and the exchange of parliamentary delegations are effective ways to enhance bilateral relations. The Speaker also extended an invitation to his Portuguese counterpart to visit Pakistan with a parliamentary delegation.
In the context of trade and economic cooperation, the Speaker highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to create a conducive environment for business and investment. He noted that Pakistan’s policies offer significant opportunities for friendly countries to invest in its economy. Additionally, the Speaker mentioned Pakistan’s rich tourism prospects, including ancient Buddhist heritage sites, which could serve as a foundation for closer cultural ties between the two nations.
The Portuguese Ambassador expressed gratitude for the Speaker’s warm remarks and reiterated that Portugal views Pakistan as an important regional stakeholder. He also emphasized Portugal’s willingness to strengthen ties in areas of mutual interest and to foster parliamentary and cultural exchanges.
