Pakistani and British Speakers Discuss Parliamentary Diplomacy and Issues of Mutual Concern in London

London, In a landmark meeting today at the House of Commons, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, met with his British counterpart, Rt Hon Sir Lindsay Hoyle, to discuss enhancing parliamentary cooperation and addressing key socio-economic issues.

According to Press Information Department, this was the first official meeting between Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Sir Lindsay Hoyle since Sadiq assumed his role. The discussions covered the intricacies of parliamentary proceedings, the importance of facilitating robust debates on public issues, and the role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering relations between the two nations. Sir Lindsay emphasized the value of mutual visits and collaboration between parliamentarians in strengthening UK-Pakistan ties, with potential benefits for the welfare of both countries’ populations.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to sharing democratic experiences and values, particularly learning from the United Kingdom, considered the mother of parliamentary democracy. The sensitive issue of Jammu and Kashmir was also brought to the table, with both speakers agreeing on the need for a peaceful resolution that aligns with the desires of the Kashmiri people. The meeting concluded with Sardar Ayaz Sadiq extending well wishes to King Charles III and the Princess of Wales and an invitation to Sir Lindsay Hoyle to visit Pakistan, which he accepted. Plans for a friendly cricket match between the parliaments of both countries were also set, underscoring a shared cultural passion.
