Islamabad: In a high-level meeting aimed at enhancing Pakistan’s climate resilience and sustainability efforts, Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam, the Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, met with Ms. Valerie Hickey, Global Director for Climate Change at the World Bank. The discussions centered on strengthening partnerships with international bodies to support climate finance, technology transfer, and capacity-building as part of Pakistan’s commitments under the Paris Agreement.
According to a statement by Press Information Department, the meeting underscored the urgent need for increased financial and technical support to accelerate Pakistan’s climate initiatives. Ms. Alam highlighted priorities such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and disaster risk management, reaffirming the government’s dedication to green development and the importance of leveraging global expertise to foster a low-carbon economy.
Ms. Hickey reiterated the World Bank’s dedication to aiding Pakistan’s climate objectives, noting the country’s vulnerabilities to climate change and the necessity for robust mitigation and adaptation strategies. The World Bank’s involvement in facilitating climate-smart investments and innovative financing was emphasized as crucial in addressing Pakistan’s challenges.
