Pakistan will not leave Afghan brethren alone in time of Crisis: Speaker Asad Qaiser

Islamabad, September 10, 2021 (PPI-OT):Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser while chairing meeting on promoting trade and people-to-people contacts with Afghanistan remarked that Afghanistan is in a transitional phase. In this period, Pakistan will continue its humanitarian and economic support to alleviate the sufferings of Afghan people.

The Speaker further remarked that parliament has played a commendable role in promoting peace, regional connectivity and people-to-people relations with Afghanistan through its Parliamentary Friendship Group and it will continue its efforts through economic integration by promoting trade and investment.

He underlined the urgent need of provision of humanitarian assistance by international community to address food shortage and COVID-19 pandemic management in Afghanistan. He also emphasized the importance of international engagement to bring economic stability in the country.

Participants of the meeting were unanimous in their views that it is essential to assist Afghanistan in building their human capacity and state’s institutional infrastructure to get them back on track and work more efficiently for bringing stability and peace in the country. Peace and stability in Afghanistan will definitely have a positive impact on Pakistan and the region.

The Speaker directed relevant stakeholders to not only fast-track resolution of outstanding issues but also work on solidifying gains achieved thus far. He further remarked that Afghanistan is very close to his heart and he will work closely with all stakeholders to facilitate Afghanistan particularly on matters of trade and connectivity.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Establishment Arbab Shahzad, PM’s Special Envoy on Afghanistan Sadiq Khan, MNA Yaqub Sheikh and senior officials of Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Commerce, Finance and Interior.
