Pakistan voices concern over blocking of access to twitter handles of its missions in India

Islamabad, June 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan has expressed serious concern over the blocking of access in India to the Twitter handles of its missions abroad by the Indian government. In a statement, Foreign Office spokesperson Asim Iftikhar said India has withheld access to the twitter handles of Pakistan’s embassies in Iran, Türkiye, Egypt and the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York and many others.

The Spokesperson urged Twitter to immediately restore access to the Pakistan missions’ accounts and ensure adherence to democratic freedoms of speech and expression. The spokesperson said diminishing space for plurality of voices and access to info in India is extremely alarming. The social media platforms should abide by the applicable international norms, he added.

Twitter account of Radio Pakistan has also been blocked in India, denying access to information and restricting democratic freedom of expression. The social media handle of Pakistan’s state broadcaster has been withheld mainly for highlighting grave human rights violations by Indian troops in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
