United Nations: Pakistan has called on the United Nations Security Council to take decisive action to halt the illegal exploitation of natural resources in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, identifying it as the fundamental cause of ongoing conflict in the area.
According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, addressed an emergency session of the UNSC focused on the crises in Congo. Akram stressed the need for enhanced oversight and traceability mechanisms in collaboration with the Congolese government, and regional and international partners.
Akram urged the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda to swiftly resume dialogues as part of the Luanda process. He affirmed Pakistan’s support for the DRC’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and condemned any foreign interference in the nation’s internal matters.
Additionally, Akram called for the withdrawal of Rwandan forces from Congolese territory, emphasizing the need for regional stability and cooperation.
