New York: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Tariq Fatemi, urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to facilitate a resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with its existing resolutions. His remarks were made during a high-level open debate at the UNSC on ‘Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Advancing Adaptability in UN Peace Operations – Responding to New Realities.’
Fatemi emphasized the importance of implementing Security Council resolutions that advocate for the right to self-determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The dispute, he noted, remains unresolved on the UNSC agenda and requires immediate attention for a lasting settlement.
He called for the UNSC to uphold its responsibility and ensure that the Kashmiri people have the opportunity to determine their future through a UN-supervised plebiscite. Fatemi’s statements were reported by Kashmir Media Service, highlighting the ongoing call for international intervention in the longstanding issue.
