NEW YORK: Pakistan has advocated for enhanced cooperation between the United Nations and the European Union in response to a fracturing global order. Addressing a UN Security Council meeting focused on the EU’s partnership with the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, highlighted the value Pakistan places on the EU’s commitment to multilateralism, international law, and the UN Charter.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Ahmad emphasized the importance of regional organizations like the EU in promoting peace, security, sustainable development, and human rights. He expressed appreciation for the EU’s support of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts for a peaceful resolution in West Asia, noting that calls for halting hostilities and resuming dialogue bolster the collective resolve for peace.
The ambassador further acknowledged the EU’s role as a significant diplomatic and humanitarian presence in the Middle East. He recognized the EU’s consistent stance on the Question of Palestine, which includes backing a just and lasting two-state solution in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
