Islamabad: Pakistan advocated for a stronger collaboration between the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations to foster a global environment of peace and tolerance. This appeal was made by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, during a special OIC high-level gathering at the UN headquarters in New York. The event commemorated the 1,500th anniversary of the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
Dar emphasized the importance of reflecting on the enduring values of peace, justice, compassion, and tolerance embodied by the Prophet. He highlighted how the Prophet’s teachings on justice, consultation, and peaceful conflict resolution align with the principles of the UN Charter.
The Foreign Minister underscored the global significance of the Prophet’s legacy, referencing the Charter of Medina, the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, and the peaceful conquest of Makkah as lasting illustrations of pluralism, dialogue, forgiveness, and humanitarian conduct, which serve as cornerstones of modern international law.
He also addressed the current difficulties confronting the Muslim world, such as the conflicts in Palestine and Kashmir, and the escalating issue of Islamophobia, which he identified as injustices that threaten global peace. He urged the OIC to increase endeavors to safeguard the fundamental rights of Muslims and bridge divides within the Muslim community.
Dar advocated for a strengthened alliance between the OIC and the UN to promote a culture of peace and tolerance. He stressed the need for concrete actions inspired by the Prophet’s message of mercy, justice, and compassion, translating them into contemporary policies that uphold dignity, equality, and mutual respect. He reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to these goals and its willingness to work with OIC members and the global community in this shared pursuit.
