Pakistan Urges Global Maritime Threat Alert System At UN


Islamabad: Pakistan has advocated for the creation of a global early-warning system to tackle growing maritime security challenges. Addressing the UN Security Council, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad stressed the need for a collaborative strategy towards new nautical technologies, such as artificial intelligence and autonomous systems, to prevent oceans from becoming zones of conflict. He underscored the significance of a rapid-response network to combat piracy, illicit trade, unlawful fishing, and marine mishaps in real-time. The Pakistani representative urged international collaboration on emerging maritime innovations to maintain peace and security at sea. The ambassador’s appeal highlighted Pakistan’s concerns about the increasing complexities of maritime security and the importance of a unified global approach to address these issues effectively. The statement was delivered during a high-level debate focused on enhancing maritime security through prevention, innovation, and international cooperation.
