Pakistan to Solarize 27,000 Agricultural Tube Wells in Balochistan

Islamabad: In a significant step towards sustainable agriculture, the Pakistani government, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has announced plans to convert 27,000 agricultural tube wells in Balochistan to solar energy. This initiative, part of a broader strategy to enhance energy efficiency in the agriculture sector, is supported by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and involves an investment exceeding $197 million.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the primary aim of this solarization project is to reduce the agricultural sector’s reliance on conventional electricity and petroleum products, thereby promoting a sustainable energy supply. This initiative not only targets energy efficiency but also addresses the broader environmental impacts associated with traditional energy sources.

The successful implementation of this project in Balochistan is expected to set a precedent for similar initiatives in other provinces, as directed by Prime Minister Sharif. This nationwide effort is designed to improve the efficiency of Pakistan’s irrigation systems and support the agricultural sector’s adaptation to more sustainable practices.
