Pakistan to Play Active Role in COP29 Conference in Baku, Asserts Planning Minister.


Islamabad: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the United Nations development goals, announcing the country’s active participation in the upcoming COP29 conference in Baku this month. The announcement came during a meeting with Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Munir Akram, where they discussed Pakistan’s development agenda, preparations for the COP29 conference, and the nation’s economic strategy.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ahsan Iqbal emphasized that despite having the lowest carbon emissions globally, Pakistan remains one of the most vulnerable countries to climate and environmental changes. He highlighted plans for a panel discussion at the Pakistan Pavilion during the conference, which will feature international participants.



The Federal Minister also highlighted Pakistan’s pioneering efforts in integrating the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its national development agenda through parliamentary approval. He announced the forthcoming establishment of 17 task forces within the Ministry of Planning, dedicated to monitoring the implementation of projects related to each of the 17 UN SDGs at both national and provincial levels.
