Pakistan to Host Key SCO Council Meeting in Islamabad


Islamabad: Pakistan is gearing up to host the twenty-third meeting of the Council of the Heads of Government of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) this coming Tuesday and Wednesday. The meeting will convene Prime Ministers and high-ranking officials from the member states to discuss and enhance cooperation across various sectors.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, “Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will preside over the SCO Council of the Heads of Government meeting, serving as the current chair.” The participants will include the Prime Ministers of China, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, along with the First Vice President of Iran and the External Affairs Minister of India.



Also attending are the Prime Minister of Mongolia, representing an observer state, and the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan, attending as a special guest. Prime Minister Sharif is scheduled to conduct significant bilateral discussions with the heads of the delegations on the sidelines of the main event.



The meeting’s agenda will focus on ongoing cooperation in economic, trade, environmental, and socio-cultural sectors, and evaluate the organization’s performance. Key organizational decisions are anticipated, aimed at deepening cooperation among SCO member states, alongside the approval of the organization’s budget.
