Pakistan to Enhance IT Education and Address Digital Divide

Islamabad, The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training has announced plans to establish advanced IT labs in Islamabad’s schools to enhance the technological skills of the youth and improve their job prospects.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during the National Launching Workshop for “Internet Dost and Internet Zabardast” in Islamabad, Secretary Federal Education Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani emphasized the pivotal role of Information Technology and digitalization in national progress and development. The workshop, supported by Google.org and organized by the National Rural Support Programme, marks a significant step toward integrating technology in education.

Secretary Wani highlighted the upgrades to schools in the Federal Capital, which now offer superior facilities including gym, sports, and self-defense classes. He also noted the new initiative providing free lunch meals to primary students in government schools to promote growth and educational participation. Approximately forty elementary schools will initially benefit from this program.

Furthermore, Dr. Rashid Bajwa, CEO of the National Rural Support Programme, detailed the “Internet Dost, Internet Zabardast” initiative, which aims to bridge the digital gap across 48 districts by next July, directly benefiting over 103,500 individuals, including underserved women, youth, parents, teachers, and children. The initiative also aligns with Google’s introduction of the “Safe Internet” concept in Pakistan, focusing on enhancing digital safety for students and children.
