Islamabad, The future of Pakistan’s sugar exports will be determined through consultations involving all relevant departments, stated Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, during a Sugar Advisory Board meeting. The meeting aimed to assess sugar stock availability, market prices, and the potential for exports given the current surplus.
According to Press Information Department, the meeting reviewed data indicating that Pakistan has a substantial surplus of sugar, with current stocks at 4.5 million tons against an annual domestic requirement of 6 million tons. This surplus includes 1.5 million tons deemed exportable by the Pakistan Sugar Mills Associations.
However, Minister Hussain emphasized that any decision to export would prioritize domestic price stability and consumer protection. The meeting, which also included Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan among others, highlighted the government’s cautious approach to managing sugar exports to balance local supply demands and potential gains from international markets.
