Islamabad, In a decisive move to overhaul the energy consumption in Balochistan’s agricultural sector, Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari has chaired a meeting focused on transitioning the province’s agricultural tube wells to solar energy. The initiative, aimed at curbing the substantial financial losses linked to the current system, seeks to foster a sustainable and cost-effective energy solution.
According to Press Information Department, the meeting gathered key figures, including the Federal Secretary of Power and the Chief Secretary of Balochistan, to deliberate on the solar conversion project. Minister Leghari highlighted the pressing need to address the 80 billion rupees annual loss resulting from the inefficient energy use in agriculture. He instructed the Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) to provide detailed assessments of the electrical feeders servicing the agricultural sector, laying the groundwork for a comprehensive transition plan.
The proposed shift to solar power is set to involve close collaboration with stakeholders to ensure that the implementation meets the needs of the agricultural community while aligning with broader environmental and economic objectives.
